Alliances for Solidarity

Alliances for Solidarity

It is often said that we are stronger together, and from this, we understand that there is a difference in acting alone and acting together. It’s how trends are created, how information gets spread, and how change comes about.

At OutRight Action International, we thrive on the alliances we have created globally and the reach of our efforts in achieving human rights for LGBTIQ people everywhere. We know that if we want to create change for the better and eliminate the discrimination faced by our communities, we must work together to make it happen.

From community leaders and grassroots volunteers to delegates at the United Nations, allies are everywhere, and we need them as much as they need us. Our lives and identities are multifaceted and intersectional, so too must our approach be to tackling human rights and pushing for equality.

In commemoration of this year’s IDAHOTB, OutRight, as part of the United Nations LGBTI Core Group in New York, will be hosting an event titled, “Alliances for Equality: A special event to celebrate allies on the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.”

The event aims to raise awareness at the United Nations and in the broader community of the ways in which LGBTI individuals and allies in various industries have joined together to raise awareness, acceptance and promote and protect the human rights of the LGBTI community. The focus of the event will be on the experiences of LGBTI individuals and allies across three sectors sport, culture, and the private sector. The discussion will focus on the transformative and reciprocal relationships between allies and LGBTI community members in various areas of public life.

I would like to invite you, from wherever you are in the world, to join us at the event by livestreaming it. You can access the live stream here, and the event will begin at 3 PM Eastern Time on May 17th, 2018.
