OutRight Iran Scholarship Winner Tells Her Story at TedX Talks

OutRight proudly supports the work of scholars, activists, and artists who are raising awareness of the LGBTIQ community and its challenges in Iran. And we are excited to report that one of our scholarship winners, Roxana Soltanzadeh, presented her story at the well-known TEDx Talks series.

Roxana Soltanzadeh shares her compelling story of post-traumatic growth to illustrate the most fundamental struggle that come with our quality of life, emphasizing the challenges that those from underrepresented groups face. Her talk will present her call to action to move towards resolving such obstacles in order to create a safer and happier future.

Roxana is a PhD student of economics and political science at Claremont Graduate University. She holds a B.S. and an M.S. in Economics from Tehran University, Iran. She is a video artist who is currently directing a series about the transgender women who are lesbians. She moved from Iran to the U.S. in 2010 to study her PhD in economics and political science. She was able to begin transitioning to female and come out as a transgender woman in 2014. Roxana is one of TEDxClaremontColleges' student speakers and will use her compelling story of post-traumatic growth to illustrate the most fundamental struggle that come with our quality of life, emphasizing the challenges that those from underrepresented groups face. Her talk will present her call to action to move towards resolving such obstacles in order to create a safer and happier future.
