Who does not love plain, monochrome T-shirts?
Black and white T-shirts are simple and understated, yet versatile and chic, and can be paired with all kinds of outfits no matter what the season.
As such, we were thrilled to hear about Social Cell Supply Co., a Canadian company which produces apparel and other goods, printed with typographic designs, with the goal of funding and raising awareness about various social issues. At the time of the writing of this feature, these social issues include racial, gender, and sexual equality.
OutRight Action International is thankful to be one of three beneficiaries of Social Cell Supply Co. The other beneficiaries are Black Lives Matter, which seeks to “affirm the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum,” and Equality Now, which aims to “achieve legal and systemic change that addresses violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world.”
We spoke to Ryan Poworoznik, the person behind Social Cell Supply Co., to find out more about the cause. Check out their products on their online store!
OutRight: Hi Ryan! Tell us more about Social Cell Supply Co.
Ryan: Social Cell Supply Co. is a small business that sells premium quality apparel and other goods, printed with typographic designs, that are based on various social issues. Our goal is to spread social awareness and raise funds for charities that support the causes that our designs represent.
OutRight: What motivated you to start a fundraiser and be proactive in supporting international LGBTIQ human rights?
Ryan: Our motivation lies in addressing the disheartening factors that plague the world and everyday life. Factors such as inequality, the environment, education, lack of access to abortion, economic realities, and a slew of others. We live in a broken world, and we just want to do what we can to make it better.
OutRight: What is the inspiration behind your tees?
Ryan: The inspiration behind our designs comes from our love of typography, vintage aesthetics, and a combination of goth and hardcore mentalities. This is in combination with our interest in politics - both past and present - and current social issues.
OutRight: Do you have suggestions on how OutRight can better support people who want to create similar campaigns, or create collaboration opportunities?
Ryan: Perhaps the best way OutRight can better support people who want to create similar campaigns would be to put it out there that you are open to collaborations. This might give people the push they need to do something, knowing they have your support. I think it's really up to people to do their own thing and figure out how best to do their part.
OutRight: What other projects lie ahead for you?
Ryan: In terms of the future for Social Cell Supply Co., we are thinking up designs for issues around gun violence, access to clean water and sanitation, animal rights and more. We're also continually looking for ways to spread the word about what we're doing. The more we can sell, the more we can donate, and that's ultimately the goal. So if anyone is interested in promoting our project we'd love to discuss collaborating.
Social Cell Supply Co. sells premium quality apparel and other goods, printed with typographic designs, in an effort to raise awareness and funds for various social issues. 50% of the profits from each sale go to the charity related to the design purchased.
